I hope this Memorial Day finds you safe and healthy as we remember those who fought and died to sustain America’s unique freedoms and institutions.
Like so many Americans, I am quick to object when our hard fought freedoms are being challenged. When this happens, I work within the system for redress. Some are responding by attempting to destroy these same institutions that have protected them since their birth.
I’m reminded of Winston Churchill who said,
“Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time..."
Churchill was saying that it’s ok to be critical of our democratic system while advocating for it. Instead of being destructive, we are encouraged to honor our fallen by improving our democracy.
We must all ask ourselves this question. Would we want to live in a world without an America in it? The answer is obvious to all of us.
While we decry our government’s inability to prevent wars and insane acts of violence, each of us can do some things to improve America and help it evolve toward a more perfect union. There are so many good ways to honor those who have made the supreme sacrifice.
I am heartened by the knowledge that my friends, loved ones, and every member of the KCAA Family of Broadcasters are doing everything possible to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
Thanks to all,
Fred Lundgren
