Stop Fighting and Start Leading!!!
That’s the message the American people are screaming at Washington
Comedian Lewis Black said, “The Republican party is the party of bad ideas, and the Democratic party is the party of no ideas.” Those words certainly ring true today, when the Supreme Court deliberately creates more division on an issue that found détente almost fifty years ago with Roe v Wade.
America’s donor dominated two party system has become comfortable with legal bribery. As a result, Washington’s quid pro quo decision making process has been trapped inside a structure that makes the rich richer. Knowing their propensity for following the money, it seems necessary to offer them some policy suggestions that will actually help the working class!
(1) Buy up all private student loan debt and allow debtors to pay off their loans to the government at zero percent interest, after reducing the principal balance of each debtor by the amount of interest they have paid.
(2) Legalize marijuana. Start by removing marijuana from the list of Schedule One drugs under the Controlled Substance Act and expunge the criminal records of all American citizens convicted of marijuana possession charges.
(3) Require the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to negotiate drug prices directly with drug manufacturers. This would include Medicare Part B (physician-administered drugs) and Part D (prescription medications).
(4) Codify Roe v Wade into federal law using the same language as the Roe v Wade Supreme Court decision that described restrictions on abortion in each trimester.
(5) Return the talking filibuster to the Senate and eliminate the 60-vote super majority rule.
(6) Make election day a national holiday in all 50 states. This holiday should extend to any election where members of Congress are on the ballot, both in off-year and special elections. Additionally, mail in ballots must be sent to all registered voters for all national elections.
(7) Every citizen’s social security card should serve as their voter ID/ voter registration card. If banks can count funds to the penny, our votes can be counted just as accurately.
Social Security numbers are the proven way to validate our identify. If Social Security numbers can be used to obtain loans and credit cards, open bank accounts, receive government benefits, contract with private insurance companies, buy homes, buy cars and get jobs, then social security numbers can damn sure be used to vote.
